Re: New SLO 100 clone
Hope you get your slo build on the way Mark! I avoided using vactrols with my build... but I also designed my own PCB's with relays. Here is a gutshot of my SLO build SLO.jpg And photo's of the new boards with onboard LND FX Loop and clean channel SLO_rev3-pre.jpg SLO_rev3-psu.jpg Those look very n...

Re: How to go about selling a trainwreck clone
There is a "For Sale/Trade" section on this site. I have also had luck selling items on Reverb, Ebay, and Craigslist. Just watch out for scammers.

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
Yes. I did. Everything is grounded properly where it needs to be and isolated where it needs to be.

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
Your PT is vibrating mechanically--been there. Some PTs are born "unbalanced" and just want to hop around at 60Hz. You have two choices: tighten securely to the chassis (sometimes this makes it worse, because then the chassis serves as a sympathetic resonator and makes the noise louder), or isolate...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
Just out of curiosity, what transformers do you all prefer for this type of build, then? Thanks. When I was researching, I found a lot of people talking about the O'Netics being wonderful, albeit expensive. For me, aside from the mechanical hum, these transformers seem great electrically... Unfortu...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
I got a reply from Rob at C3: They do vibrate a bit and make some noise. It shouldn’t be excessive and these were normal on test here. Your video is spot on. That is the sound of an SLO at idle. These transformers are alternate vacuum and pressure impregnated with a heat cure resin that turns them i...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
This is a lot, not good, not acceptable, like a 10kV transformer for households on the street :P If all bolts are tight (also holding the laminations) the problem is inside of transformer probably, need to be varnished.. The bobbin is vibrating on the laminations probably, and also laminations seem...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
People who bought from Rob often came to sloclone asking for assistance, so I wouldn’t be so sure about a prompt and positive feedback. I hope for you to be wrong. Yeah, he isn't super fast on responding to my questions. It took quite a while to get these transformers shipped after I ordered them. ...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
Despite the mechanical hum from the power transformer, I went ahead and installed some tubes and set the bias so I could finally play through this thing... MAN! The overdrive on this sounds absolutely killer! Heavy, tight, and punchy. Playing this through a 4x12 full of vintage 30s provides for some...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
This is an O-netics transformer from C3. I went ahead and emailed Rob at C3 and am awaiting a response. Per the documentation he provided with the transformer he tested and did a burn in on it before sending it to me.

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
Finally got around to powering this amplifier up, no tubes installed. Man, this power transformer is pretty loud. In stand-by immediately after powering it up it holds a pretty steady hum. I can feel the transformer vibrating. Other amps I am used to an initial bit of PT hum when I power it on, but ...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
Welp, I think I have complted the wiring portion of this build. As of this moment it is still Schrodinger's amp, though since I have yet to power it up. I will probably power it up in the morning. It is nowhere near as neat as other SLO builds I have seen, but for the time being I am pretty proud of...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
C3 amp chassis come oriented in the same fashion: http://c3amps.com/index.html As well, it looks like Soldano sold them oriented in the same fashion for at least a little while. Cursory searches on google show lots of clones and actual Soldanos oriented in this way, with end bells facing each other,...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
I went ahead and followed the advice of doing a headphone test... Well, I used a guitar speaker. Anyway, I did not find any problem with having the transformers in line. I also think it looks pretty nice. After I got the transformers mounted, I went ahead and wired the power tube filaments along wit...

Re: Amplified Nation JM/Wonderland Chassis and Board Sets
Hi, I beg your pardon but sometimes the most trivial things are neglected only to realize that they are important. Using an Amplified Nation chassis I need to use three Jack outputs for the three impedances: 4,8,16 Ohm instead of an impedance selector. In order not to burn the output transformer, t...
