Re: Removing Negative Feedback

very cool... I believe I get it... but let's say I just wanna clip the NFB and not have a pot or switch (which I probably will want), could I simply clip either end of the R & leave it taped off, or remove it without completing the circuit that existed previously? ॐ💃
thanks again~

Re: Removing Negative Feedback

I think I'd favour to be able to get as close to 'zero' feedback (max gain) as possible.... So, simply take which leg of that resistor, put it to the outer leg of the pot, and the pot's middle lug continues the 'path'?? What about a ground, if necessary? Does the pot need to go 'after' the resistor,...

Removing Negative Feedback

Greetings,,, on a soon to be mine Ampeg AC12 guitar amp, is removing the negative feedback as simple as just removing whichever resistor? Fear not, this will be performed by an experienced hand..... AND, after removing the resistor, do I just leave it open, or do I need to re-complete the path, w/o ...

BEST 7189/EL84's To Take Serious Heat.....

Greetings.... I've got some real hot 'n nasty amps that roast power tubes; Mesa, Budda, Vox, & Morgan, and I need a great sounding & heat/voltage handling set of tubes.... I recently read about some Preffered Series 7189's that can handle 400+v, and want to know what else is out there that might als...

Power Soak Under $200.....

...that doesn't truly suck the life out of your sound??
I can safely say I would not be using it with any extreme cut...... Thnx

Re: A Question Of Tone...?

thnx xtian, understood, but basically, as you said, the tone is usually a high-cut,,,, and I suss that any 'brightening' of the signal (aside from a bass cut) would live somewhere deeper & warranting some minor surgery? I don't don't any of this stuff myself, but I'm trying to get a better grasp on ...

A Question Of Tone...?

Greetings, putting speaker & pickup choices aside, in a given amplifier with1-vol 1-tone, with the tone control all the way up, is getting more high-end content more complicated than simply swapping some cap or resistor values on the tone control? OR, with that tone full up, OR is it a case of 'It i...

Re: Out Of Curiosity...

thnx, SLUCKEY!! I love the 2-10 Vicky, but it needs a kick in the pants.... Sounds like an amp on 8 that wants to go to 10,, or even 12~ I'll keep you advised...ॐ💃

Re: Out Of Curiosity...

SLUCKEY,,, Talk to me,,,, So, as it sits, it's fixed bias, right? I have a 'guy' that's not really an amp tech so much as an electronics buff, but when i give him a directive, he follows.... What's the deal with the cathode bias you speak of?? I would do it only if tweedy goodness TRULY awaits me at...

Re: Out Of Curiosity...

so I'm not truly in affect changing any hot or cool biasing on the power tubes... right? A tuslly the amp is a Victoria Ivy League Harvard clone, & I want some more of that 50/60's Tweed OD out of it, & of course I'd have someone else do the work, cuz I know next to nothing, but I know what I want t...

Re: Out Of Curiosity...

ok,, so is that trim pot the way to 'run or bias hotter' & perhaps going from a 25mV to a 35mV reading is in affect doing just that? again, I'm not going to start twisting & turning stuff,,, I just seek clarification of what turning that pot does.... thnx

Out Of Curiosity...

The builder of my guitar amp said "The bias pot is on the left hand side of the board. the beige square with black dial. Set it for 25mV across the 1Ω resistors on each power tube cathode." Now, going either way, above or below 25mV would do what?? Would going up to, let's say, 35mV, be what's known...

Here are some idle current recommendations in reference to plate voltage for the 6L6GC tubes you have.
fwiw, they're 6V6's & I'm just want to "bias a little hotter for a touch more crunch"...? I'm so lame with the terminology but my ears could explain it better...
thnx

Re: Checking Bias

Well understood SteveM.... I'm getting what seems to be conflicting info, or just my misunderstanding co.ing into light,,, BUT, isn't 'running them hot' what's implied when one slightly increases the plate voltage in MV, across pin 8 (1ohm res.) & ground? thnx
