Re: ODS 102 with 2x KT88s and built-in Dumbleator
Whoops! I see a mistake in the VVR drawing! I forgot to add in the 1Meg pot! I though you were going for fixed bias. Is there any reason you need this to be adjustable? Probably not. I think I could just measure my current values and put resisters in instead. I think it was more for experimental pu...

Re: ODS 102 with 2x KT88s and built-in Dumbleator
What was your thinking with the power MOSFET for the B+ branch feeding your reverb and FX loop? To get the magic 30V on the cathode your "B+5" voltage should be in the order of 260V on the plate of the driver and 360V on "B+4". With these values, the 30V is all but certain. That MOSFET is a VVR for...

Re: ODS 102 with 2x KT88s and built-in Dumbleator
... You aren't likely to need the 68pf cap on the Master though. Good to know. Thanks. I'm out of the loop on any discussion on that one. I see most with the 68pF, one with 15pF, and some with none. I guess with bright switch in the loop, and a presence control later, it becomes pretty irrelevant? ...

Re: ODS 102 with 2x KT88s and built-in Dumbleator
After doing a bunch more suggested reading on the Loop, Stephen, I lifted your circuit from your 183 build. In the interest of not drilling too many more holes or installing parts that I think won't get used, I removed the the line/instrument switch as well as the jacks for the passive loop. I'm th...

Re: Hypothetical Amp Discussion
What would you recommend as a starter amp? Would it be a better learning experience to start with a kit or with a full build? Only you can really answer that. We know of quite a few amps that make good/great pedal platforms but the caveat is how much time, money and energy you have to invest. We al...

Re: Robben Ford & His Dumble Overdrive Special
Agreed there was a lot of high energy high frequency action there. The feedback was quick with some of their pickups but the sustain was great and sounded very smooth to me. The best moment to my ears was when they tried it without any effects. They didn't exactly smother it in reverb and delay thou...

How is that J201 sounding? Does it or the circuit do anything to raise the sound floor?

Re: Hypothetical Amp Discussion
Do you use the DSL40CRs dirty channel? Ever? The clean channel is actually not that bad with those amps but the onboard effects loop is a tone-sucker. Is it a pedal platform you are looking for? I will elaborate on that. First, I should warn you, prototyping is an expensive business. Sometimes you a...

Re: ODS 102 with 2x KT88s and built-in Dumbleator
Yup, I keep changing my mind. I'm thinking I'd like to build it leaving space for a classic Fender 2-tube reverb before the loop. Sort of a future expansion idea after I've played the regular 102 circuit and can judge properly if the reverb circuit compromises anything by being added. May 11.jpg I'...

Re: Robben Ford & His Dumble Overdrive Special
A few things stand out about this interview. First, there can never be enough examples of these amps being played, and I think if you have good sound, good headphones perhaps, you can get a pretty good sense of the tone and presence of the amp. I say presence in the sense of the sheer sound pressure...

Re: Dumble ODS 102 Mistakes and Recovery
I have spoken to the main man at Modulus and he can build a custom OT and PT to the exact spec. He said however the idea by using M6 laminations is to reduce the size of the PT which im not too bothered about. I have sent the schematic for the 12v tap so its a win win. I wanted to keep the main par...

Re: Couple of #183 derivatives
The ticking is some kind of internal arcing? Yes, and the voltage drops are there too in the same time.. on variac if i lower the input voltage, then in one moment is ok situation, but on nominal looks like is going to the white smoke. Chasing the ghost  Well you've got at least one dud th...

Re: Dumble ODS 102 Mistakes and Recovery
Haha I like planning for a lifetime! its what I do for a job (Architecture). Yeah I think see it as an investment. I have one DMM but the capacitor test isnt sensitive enough and it does do Milivolts. Would the 716P and 6PS make much of a difference? I just checked my stash of Orange Drops and they...
