Re: Isolating FWB (-) from other ground paths with a PT without CT (tube amp)?

Thank you, R.G., for the replies.

I have been calling myself a 'transformer junkie' since my first job cutting lawns as a teenager, and my bedroom closet shelf came down with the drywall because I overloaded it with transformers & chokes!

I use industrial work surfaces and concrete blocks now.

Re: What're you listening to right now??

On an old guitar history bender this week... Tried to find Charlie Christian recordings that don't sound like 1930's...could only listen to so much of that audio quality but wanted to pay some attention to him. Next was Mary Osborne's "A Girl & Her Guitar". 1959 or 1960. She's directly inspired by C...

Re: Isolating FWB (-) from other ground paths with a PT without CT (tube amp)?

I'd like to think I took the thought and work approach, but part of it could easily have been dipping a toe into the paranoia/superstition pool (even if l was the only one at the shallow end)! I got obsessed trying to figure out why some transformers have different numbers of nylon or fiber washers ...

Re: Isolating FWB (-) from other ground paths with a PT without CT (tube amp)?

Thank you, bepone & R.G. Earlier I came to the conclusion the amp was dramatically quieter with all the chassis and PCB connection points isolated, using clip leads to experiment for different local ground connection points. But still not quiet enough. At one point I swapped two different NOS 5751's...

Isolating FWB (-) from other ground paths with a PT without CT (tube amp)?

I think this question may already be answered but not finding it with my search details. I want to, as a starting point, isolate a semiconductor FWB (-) and reservoir capacitor (-) from the rest of the B+ voltage dropping and filtering capacitor returns (-). The power transformer has no CT, as it's ...

Re: How to clean motherboards?

Chemical absorption by inhalation, ingestion and absorption are all ways they can get into your body. Different solvents have different TLV's (threshold limit value) over an 8 hour shift (different relative degree of safety). So we're relatively safe at home with infrequent use. No oppressive Safety...

Re: How to clean motherboards?

FYI: IPC610 solder training in the manufacturing world (involving politics and money) has agreed that a mix of IPA and acetone should not exceed 50% acetone to avoid damage to certain components. That's a little arbitrary, but it does point to the fact that some solvents ware more aggressive than ot...

LTspice folder organization that works for you?

I can create a simple schematic and run a simulation in LTspice. When someone gives me a hand up and shares, or I download a posted .asc file, I struggle to place various added items that are included via .INC statements etc. Obviously, I either need those components, and/or need to put them in a fo...

Re: Stringsandfrets DCCF harmonics

Ulrich sent me a file for a rabbit-hole project, and he included three different tube models, with the suggestion (my wording at this point) I could 'comment out' two and activate one. That way I could compare all three. Which is real? Who know?...they're models ...helpful but not gospel. I get the ...

Good idea. Good power rating, voltage limit and TCR. Re: Pro Junior noise battles

I have it as quiet as I have ever heard it, but I have the 'audio returns' grounds connected by clip leads to the black wire of the output transformer secondary, at the now-insulated output jack. That is now my 'single point local audio ground'. The low side of R1 is connected to that with a clip le...
