Hey Mark,
I have seen the AX-84 schematic before but this is a great set of all the documents in one place, thanks.

Re: Dirty Little Monster
Without internal pictures of the DLM, it didn’t get up. That is unfortunate, there appeared to be quite a bit of interest at one time. The proposed "potential" schematics are interesting and varied. Some of those here put in quite a bit of work on them. I think I'm going to continue working towards...

Re: Dirty Little Monster
This DML thread looks to have just died 12 years ago with what seemed like a great deal of interest. There has since been photos of the real deal, at least of the exterior. Has anyone continued to work on the schematic and/or layout used by Ken? Who has recently built what they consider a great amp ...

Re: Pete Thorn Trainwreck Video
Sorry for bumping an older thread. I've recently discovered these amps. I've built several Marshall and Vox style amps, but I've always leaned towards the EL34 sound. So I'm trying to decide if I want to build a Liverpool or an Express. But I sure do love the tones he's getting. The answer is simpl...

Re: New Express project(s)
Mark, I am not questioning what Dave Funk told you and I sure wasn't in the store when Ken bought his wire. I think Ken and HAD used solid core wire by choice and not because it was all that they could get. I have had good luck using quality solid core wire in many applications and agree quality str...

Re: New Express project(s)
That is very interesting, I have never been to electronics supply house where stranded wire wasn't the primary option. My experience is it is often hard to find many options for solid core at most outlets especially for anything 20-22ga rated above 300v. I would also wonder why Ken continued to use ...

Re: New Express project(s)
You could be right, its unfortunate that Ken is not around to weigh in on the origination of many of the physical parts used. There are some still out there that may have some insight to Kens thinking. That being said there are some indications that his selection of the specific BUD chassis was deli...

Re: New 12w Liverpool build
Even when playing or recording at relatively low volumes, with the treble cap engaged and the treble eq up beyong about 4 i can get easy harmonic feedback at conversation volumes This is through a thiele 1x12 cab with a celestion 65 I dont really have that with my other amps Yes and at higher volum...

Re: New 12w Liverpool build
Yes, the Express circuit amps I have played through are prone to feedback more when using my guitars with either unpotted or light potted pickups. These pickups, at least in my guitars, tend to be in the 6-8k range. When using pickups like a JB or the like which are 16k or greater things can get sau...

Re: New 12w Liverpool build
The Express as KF built it was on the verge of control, some more than others. The circuit is pretty straight forward but brings with it a ton of potential gain. My suggestion is always to build it to the original circuit and get it where you want prior to making any potential changes. Careful adher...

Re: New 12w Liverpool build
I suppose one option would be to make use of the unused 5v circuit to power some relays for the purpose as well. It does seem counterintuitive to the simplicity of KF's design and open up some other potential noise issues. I'm sure it could be sorted out.

Re: New 12w Liverpool build
Hey Pete, sorry I could have been clearer. Yes it is and I simply replaced the 68k(R7) with three resistors in series and added a .068uf cap. I think I saw a variation to the idea here on the board and played with values. Like I said, it was simple and is a nice feature that doesn't seem to have any...

Re: New 12w Liverpool build
I added a version of a fast/gradual switch in the amp when I built and like it a lot. It does help with cleans with guitar volume minimized. It is the second mini toggle on the face of the amp and not foot switchable. I suppose a DIN connector could be added at the rear for a foot switch that would ...

Re: New 12w Liverpool build
Yes, you're right DLM. I fat fingered that and didn't catch it! I know that there is very minimal information. It would be an experiment that would probably be continuous. Certainly a good project in the future. I am surprised that there is not more interest in the amp and KF's amps in general. It d...
