Re: Bass Amp for a friend
You';ve inspired me to go back and finish designing my Sunn Sorado derived build.

Re: The Donut Princess Build
Also in your schematic, the signal into the left grid gets taken off the wiper of the dwell control.
As far as NFB, I didn't need it. Letting the reverb just kind of saturate and go non-linear is part of the fun assuming you don't get a lot of buzz.
Which Dumble schematic specifically?

Re: The Donut Princess Build
Hey Tom, I just saw your question, I've been off building pedalboards. Disclaimer: I lifted the design more or less stock from Kevin O'Connor The Utlimate Tone books as mentioned in the thread. The Basic P-P driver reverb driver sounds less "splashy" than a stock fender, but it's stil very much in t...

Re: Feedback on 1x15 Forte 3D inspired design
Other dumb questions: what's you level of tooling skill and availability? Since you're in Colombia, If you really wanted something crazy, pernambuco (aka Brazilwood) would be insane, but I don't recommend picking on it unless you have insanely sharp tools or a cnc. Not sure how far north it grows. L...

Re: Feedback on 1x15 Forte 3D inspired design
Disclaimer, I know a lot more about woodworking than speaker cab design. Teak is stupid heavy, very expensive and the silicate in it is murder on your tools (but still doable). It does look good though. I always come back to sapele (aka African mahogany) as pretty light strong and cheap(ish). It has...

12V to 250V schematic? (Tube in pedal platform)
Hiya gang, Does anyone have a favorite 12V to high voltage (250vish) schematic anyplace? I can build a small self contained preamp power supply from wall voltage, but I'm trying to get something compatible with my DC7 at 12V, .5A. I'm waiting for my spot to come up in the Kingsley Pedal lottery, but...

Re: Schematic Software
I went through this a year ago when I got back into amp building about a year ago trying to capture my really old hand drawn schematics from the last time I was into amp building 15 years prior. I was looking for something freeish and able to simulate the circuit. I settled on KiCAD for schematic en...

Re: What's your favourite grillcloth to work with?
>Nice workshop... 8) Thanks. I do a combo of handtools and power machinery, although my original background is in EE. It's an ever ever-evolving mess. I originally got into woodworking trying to build cabinets for my original twin/plexi mashup. Funnily I have two daughters and I really really want t...

Re: What's your favourite grillcloth to work with?
What JM said. There's nothing particularly magical about grill cloth for guitar cabs. Since it's a woofer output, you don't need anything "audio transparent" ie: expensive or exotic, just pretty and durable. I've built two speaker cab baffles out of JoAnn fabrics "brocade" material. You want the uph...

Re: The Donut Princess Build
That's a good idea, I think I have a low impedance DC node around someplace. I suppose I can just string a voltage divider across the B+ node and grab 40V off the middle.

Re: The Donut Princess Build
After action report: This thing sounds GREAT! I've been living with this as my only home amp for a bit and I love it. Matching head cab out of sapele photos over in the cab/speaker forum. Sounds just insanely great clean. I am playing it through a 1x15 cab with a weber Mass attenuator, loud, but the...

The Donut Princess gets a Case
After finishing the 1x15 speaker cab, I've been building a matching head for The Donut Princess. The matching speaker cab is sapele carcase DTed with some wild maple panels I picked up here in Colorado for $6/bf. It's about 8 threads below this one. I used the original 12' x 15"(!) board's offcut an...

Re: New project: Something British This Way Comes
Wow the Selmer Zodiac 50 has a really odd reverb mixer. It looks like it folds the reverb back into the input signal which is then coupled back out the other direction through the 560pF coupling cap. The PA B+ is also fed from the far side of the choke Dynaco style. That's a really interesting circu...
