Re: How to verify solder joints

It may be functional now, but for how long? You are using solder to make an electrical connection, which is good. You are also trying to make the electrical connection withstand mechanical stress, which is not so good IME. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's not a good solution. Thanks V...

Re: How to verify solder joints

What green corrosion? All I can see is that ugly connection from shield to shield. Yea, it may not be pretty, but it's functional. No? Am I doing something wrong here? There is a lot of shielded wire in this amp, it's a really big two channel high gain one. I'm just now able to get back into it, (O...

Re: How to verify solder joints

I realize this is not only what looks like a cold joint just visually, but additionally bad... What causes the green corrosion? If I'd venture a guess, it's improper cleaning prior to soldering. Yeah? (The green wire directly center on the brass plate.)

Re: Lava Cable VS Mogami

Wow guys, you really don't hear a difference in different cables? The first time I used a Monster cable, I was immediately very pleased in the updated overall sound/clarity.. (I don't see Monster referenced around these parts much, do I sense phpphhttt sounds?) I have a shootout recorded somewhere o...

Re: Loctal tubes to get back into it.

Welcome, from way across the lake! I'm very happy to have found that cute little 6AV6 as well. (And was happier to find out Telefunken made them too! I'm such a sucker for that brand..) I had to split a 12AX7 in half because two channels were sharing it, and cross-talk issues resulted. I noticed no ...

Re: Parametric Equalizer

Holy crap there's a lot of tubes in that thing!!!

So chip is the way to go. It'll be a lot cheaper, that's for sure.

There's also this one that I came across today;

http://www.sabrotone.com/?p=578

A few to choose from now, when some time frees up it'll be review, digestion and order some pahts.

Re: Parametric Equalizer

Jaz! Hey pal! I didn't recognize you without the flying tube icon. Kind of reminds me of the Rad-Tel logo for some reason. No, I'll never take a break from the amp you're helping me with over at the other place. It kind of owns me... Ask my girlfriend. Great looking info on the parametric, th...

Re: Parametric Equalizer

Leo, I'm sure it's the same one I saw also, not sure which forum it was. They were analyzing it, and came to the conclusion it was unfit for their application, or antiquated, or some reason. But nothing ever solidified with it. I have a Rane peq, I do not have an absolute need for it to be in an exi...

Parametric Equalizer

Hey guys! I'm gearing up for a new build, (Hoping...) It's just going to be a preamp. In the works now is a 50w that's slowly going through the debugging process. I have lots of ideas for the next thing, but I really want it to have a 2 or maybe 3 band parametric. I've done a bunch of searching... a...
