Re: Resistor type, quality, location. ???

half watt MF resistors will be rated for 300V; most 1W MF resistors have the same limit. Use good-quality CFs (1W) if you need 500V.

Re: Perplexing 60 Hz hum - bad new can cap?

60Hz hum wouldn't be coming from the power supply filter caps; those would give you 120Hz 'buzz'.

If it is truly hum, try hooking up your heaters to a 6V lantern battery to see if the hum disappears. If it does, its a problem with your heaters.

Do you have a scope?

Re: Heater wiring rant

I have grown to prefere biasing up the whole string to going the full DC route! I find that the high level of DC current when running on 12 volts does change the responce of a preamp tube , no comments so far on output tubes! With 12Vdc or 12Vac? And in what way is the response of the preamp tube c...

Re: custom 10W Jube

Why so many people is cloning diode clipping stuff? You would think the last amp to need diode clipping would be a small SE with no NFB. All the ingredients are present for making an abundant ruckus. Very true. The whole dual-clipper circuit between stages 2 and 3 can be replaced by a simple voltag...

Re: Cathode Bypass Cap Question

One thing that I think I have learned is that as you increase Rk, it really makes sense to put some series resistance in the bypass cap path. Otherwise, the jump between the unbypassed low frequencies and the bypassed higher frequencies is just too much. So with a 10k/100n cathode circuit, for examp...

If a company called Keyser Söze Amplification pops up selling amps without providing any contact info, it's not me.... Hi, That's interesting to know, but shouldn't this be in technical discussion as a new thread and in Garage Talk? Just saying. Best regards, Steve It was just a joke, Steve. No nee...

Re: custom 10W Jube

I kinda think that section of sloclone is silly. lots of amps without diode clipping get stuck in that section (e.g., Friedman PT20); and I bet the Jube would bet put in the 'other noteworthy amps' section because its not made by Friedman or Fortin.

Re: Safety Compliance

sobering (and depressing) posts.

So should all DIY guys who sell what they build as a means to continue their building hobby just quit selling?

Related question if I may: would it be less of a legal hassle to offer parts kits rather than fully assembled amps?

No choke in this one. (I do have a choke in my own 10W design, however.)

Re: custom 10W Jube

"Jubenile"! I love it. Without gut shots, it didn't happen. How's the hum at idle? That's the only thing that keeps me from enjoying SE amps at home. Randy Fay makes the Phaez Jubenile, so he probably came up with that great name. For some reason he doesn't mind me making my custom versions of his ...

custom 10W Jube

Hey guys, I just finished building this one-channel amp whose preamp is based on a Marshall 2550 (no clean setting, however). Power amp is pretty simple: 10-ish Watts, single-ended, cathode-biased, any octal tube, no NFB. https://soundcloud.com/v2-jmcd/v2-lotto-amp-jube-blue-and-evil https://soundcl...
