Re: Capacitor cocktail - types, locations
"I wish I didn't hear a difference and that I could just be happy plugging into a Marshall and be done with it. It's a blessing and a curse." ...Funny guy! I did that for about 30 years, and like Structo as a 50 something I question my own damage, but only for a short time. But now it's an addiction...

Re: Capacitor cocktail - types, locations
Yes we have stepped yet again into the capacitor type vs. actual values debate, at least that's what I call it. It's been hotly contested on other forums and the "cork" sniffers on the HiFi forums claim to have the golden ears. That's because they have a lot more money. I for one spent a lot of time...

Wow, the guy is a monster! Spot on about these being an unforgiving amp, but falling in love with them "anyway". Love the strat tone.

Re: Attenuator #733 -The Broker-
Depending on the intended use, the build looks proper but I am wondering about how the two large resistors are being anchored? The end-clip mounting bracket holes are pointed up in the pictures. If that is the way you intended to leave it I would very strongly suggest rotating them 90 degrees, and b...

Re: Resonance , its not just for breakfast anymore ....
Perhaps the reason none of the items that were seized and examined after his death; then returned to his estate weren't deemed any danger because the government folks who were doing the examining were too damn stupid to realize what they were looking at. Granted that's opinion, with critical thinkin...

Re: Ultimate Hammond Conversions thread
I've got one too, but won't build it for a while...cool ideas for when I do! Not to worry Preset, I'll have at least three knobs ... but I like the looks of that cane grille and head cab...nice work for your brother, Sparrot. I have collected a ton of chassis and iron from these and others. I would ...

Re: A little reverb help?
Thanks sluckey! I'll put one in asap. I was wondering if that had anything to do with it, as I saw it on all the other effects loop/rev circuits I looked at.
Is that spot the optimal place to take my signal send, or is there a better place?

A little reverb help?
I'm trying to "graft in" a reverb for the first time (ever) into a Huss-style plexi 6v6. The return side is working fine (bump the spring box, I can hear them loud and clear.) but I am sure I picked the wrong spot to take the input signal as I don't seem to be getting any guitar through there. Thank...

Re: A Rockster Variant Mutant Donster Monster
Thanks for all the help to everyone. I hope this thread will help anyone looking to venture out from the norm...it can be a scary place for a noob like me, but so far this beast is roaring. RJ, it's a beast and as you know well, not the same as the el84 flavor at all, plus here we are using some "Gh...

Re: A Rockster Variant Mutant Donster Monster
LOL, just saw Rick's post- yeah I was looking at this from "all" those angles, (except the reading by heater light). I have a few sub-ohm resistors on hand for old iron (pre 1970-ish) but want to make sure this can handle old stock tubes for sure, the newer prod. ones probably won't have issues, but...

Wyan, thanks - no I didn't create an artificial CT for the heaters, this one already has a CT on the 6.3 section.

Re: A Rockster Variant Mutant Donster Monster
Thanks Matt...that's good news! I'm just paranoid about checking it because I have been using so much old iron, that its typical to have to compensate for it there.

Re: A Rockster Variant Mutant Donster Monster
Not too great of playing, but here's some tones: Starting with vol. pots on 3 or 4 both pickups, then playing around with vol's upward, then switching to bridge pup only, at a couple vol. settings, then the neck pup at the last few seconds... I like the way it's mic-ing up...that is 2" condenser abo...
