Silverface Deluxe Reverb trem cap
I am re-capping an all original AB868 DR, and I notice the second side of the trem oscillator tube has a 5uF/25v cathode bypass cap instead of the blackface 25uF/25v. The schematic confirms this, which I had previously thought may have been a typo, as in an omitted "2". Looks like the rest of the tr...

I like to use that Alex Lifeson riff to show off my 5E3's.

Re: Show off my new rebuild
Looks fantastic. I'm curious how you think it sounds in comparison to the DRRI original circuitry. Mitch Quite a bit better. As a DRRI, I had to be careful of the treble control, and was sometimes told I was too loud on stage with the volume on 4 and the treble on 3. "Too loud" means different thin...

Well, that's interesting....
Was playing one of my recent 5E3 builds and noticed a buzz on the low E note from a Les Paul. Poked and traced until I found a mechanical vibration on the left side of the G-10 turret board. Found nothing loose. Board is secured by two spacers ala Triode, one screwed in about 2/3 to the right at the...

This. And make sure you use the same gauge wire, or one click heavier if you have to. Two layers of heat shrink please.M Fowler wrote:Yes just make a good mechanical connection solder and cover with shrink tubing.

Re: Fender Super Reverb - ground switch/cap + 3-prong?
As has already been established early in these posts, the "ground" switch now does nothing.VintageCharlie wrote:p.s. the ground switch now does essentially nothing ,right - so it doesn't matter where it is set?

Re: Fender Super Reverb - ground switch/cap + 3-prong?
FWIW, I would clip the death cap at the switch side, but leave it soldered to the chassis. I'm not really sure about your transformer question, but this way if the cap is leaky or someday did short it makes it a moot question. Plus, one never knows where the amp may someday end up and possibly plugg...

Re: Measuring output power
Only as sure as the documentation provided by Triode, which shows 4,8, and 16.JazzGuitarGimp wrote:
There is another possibility: Are you sure the output taps are 4, 8, 16 and not 2, 4, 8?

Re: Measuring output power
Measured the other OT taps, less on the 4 ohm lead, more on the 16 ohm lead. So, I guess I am resolved that these two builds are putting out about 10 watts clean, and there it is. They both sound good, so off they go!

Re: Measuring output power
Apologies in advance for this... ...but are you *sure* you're on the 8 ohm tap? Everything looks OK to your power tubes, and that voltage swing would be roughly right for the 4 ohm tap. You know what? I asked myself the same question. I emailed Triode for the spec sheet and according to it, ...

Re: Measuring output power
Measure the 6V6 cathode voltage (x) at idle, then double that number (2x). Then apply a 400Hz sinewave at the input and bring the volume up just to the point of clipping at the output. Now measure the grid of each output tube with the scope: the peak to peak signal voltage at each grid should be pr...

Re: Measuring output power
Perhaps one of the preamp stages is clipping prematurely, or your PI is very unbalanced? Use your scope to find out. Also, what is the p-p signal level going into the power tube grids? Looking at the PI. the both sections look about the same at about 50v p-p before clipping, up til about 10 on volu...
