RIP
Pretty similar here.
For me - it was his amps that caused the amp building (I tend to believe mild, others disagree) obsession and got me into this (delightful) madness.

Re: Seems that TAD 6L6WGC is discontinued... Suggestions
Phew - still seem to be available on TAD website - I use them in a few amps and they do sound great - may need to order a couple of sets while they have them.

Re: Effect Pedal building
That would have been nice, eh You are going to like it, I think and it is very easy to add a jfet stage in front of the tube for some additional heat. That’s how they do some of their other drive pedals anyway.

Re: Effect Pedal building
Hey Tony, Thanks for that. Appreciated. I used the schematic from this post: https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/anything-kingsley.3977/post-36710 and this SMPS PCB: https://frogpedals.com/index.php/product/frog-smps-high-voltage-power-supply/ Nothing quite unexpected, but very well-tuned - Simons ea...

Re: SE Rocket build - The Wrong Horse Amp
I leave it off most of the time as I like it on the cleanish side. It provides for a good bump in volume and gain so definitely usable for leads and if (for whatever reason) somebody decides to build it for anything different than recording (it is great for that)/practice, I'd put that on a foot ped...

Re: Effect Pedal building
Out of the few tenths of drives I did lately, an interesting bit is the Kingsley Page type boost pedal.
Didn't finish yet the enclosure, but sounds good to me:)
Sounds (G&L Classic S to 5B3/6 type amp) :

Re: SE Rocket build - The Wrong Horse Amp
Thanks for the note! It's been a while since I called it a day with this one :) To be honest - I did quite a bit of experimentation, including chokes, etc. and there's no noticeable change (that does not impact the sound as well). It is reasonably quiet, even cranked and sounds great so happy for no...

Re: A Tube Amp Doctor Tolex Glue thread (Europe)
I used it with great success in the past while fresh, but haven’t tolexed a cab in the past year or so, hence that’s great info.
Thanks a bunch!

Re: Parallel single ended 6v6 amp with a half power switch
Here's my take - a pair of 6CA7s driven by parallel Hammond 125E OTs. Preamp is derived from a Hiwatt DR103. Sounds nothing like the Hiwatt, but sounds great. My favorite amp. I used two OTs as I had one from a previous build and wanted to use it on another build - but different. So I paralleled an...

Re: Benson Monarch
Guys, where is the latest and greatest schematic located? I used that one on page 2 and I think it is still the accepted latest with few notes - later amps have had 0.1uF coupling caps changed for 0.02uF (but this can be subjective so a bit of experimenting is advisable). I added also an additional...

Re: Ryan & Erwin's SSS #002 Madness
I'd be careful with the heaters - better slightly lower than higher, especially full 10%, esp. with power tubes - this inevitably shortens their life. On the transformers discussion - I used Edcors in mine and very happy with the choice - they definitely know their stuff - and with hi-fi-ish style a...

While on the reverb subject, I changed the 8FBxx tank (I was using) with an 8EBxx, since I found use for the FB in athoer project - the difference is rather tiny

Re: New build sounded good, now sounds like a long string of firecrackers
While I built this one, I never kinda bonded with the original design and sound of these 'combo' tubes. Added another double triode and 'proper' power pentodes (cheap, abundant and great sounding 6P1P Russian tubes) and it turned out a great little amp (plus some 'options' that I added along the way...

It will never have the squeaky, scooped clean of a Blackface, though.
