Re: Rocket Build - done 10-27
I've wired the board and started modifying the chassis. I'm guessing there are no glaring errors, or someone would have corrected me by now. No news is good news, right?

Rocket Build - done 10-27
Hey, all. I've thrown together a layout for a Rocket I'm hoping to build into a gutted amp and using non-standard parts. One problem is that I don't have a center tapped PT, so I'm using a bridge rectifier with a simulated sag of a GZ34. This is one of those "I wonder if this will work" kind of proj...

Re: Building a new bench - stand or sit?
Count me among the "stand with the option to sit" group. I usually start out standing, but if I'm there long enough, I pull the stool over.

Re: where to go to to have faceplates made?
I've dealt with Sandy at Precision Design, as she's relatively local (very quick turnaround time for me).

Re: Crate VC 50 to Rocket Reverb?
From what I understand, they're for the channel switching. They also frequently go bad (as I believe they have in this case, too).

Re: Crate VC 50 to Rocket Reverb?
Makes sense. I completely ignored the P-P in the measurement...akahoushi wrote:I think it's 8.8V peak-to-peak, which would be about 6.22V RMS.

Re: Crate VC 50 to Rocket Reverb?
I've been going over this schematic and am seeing something that looks funny...From the looks of it, the heater tap on the PT is putting out 8.8VAC. From there, they rectify it for DC and send it to the 12AX7 tubes. However, it looks like they're sending 8.8VAC to the power tubes. Can someone clear ...

Do you get any resistance from the CT to either of the primaries? I'm no expert, but it sure doesn't sound good for the OT...

Re: TW Xpress Problem
Had this happen on a JTM 45 clone. The cap board had a bad connection, and would periodically arc (making the popping sound). Yet another idea for you to try.

Crate VC 50 to Rocket Reverb?
I recently scored a broken down VC 50 for cheap. Was thinking of ripping out the board and using what's left for a budget Rocket Reverb. She's heavy...it's the 3x10 combo. I've attached a schematic that does include a voltage chart. I think by swapping in a tube-ish rectifier (will either use a Webe...

Re: PC's and things
I'll second the new hard drive motion. I had a problem with my Vista machine crashing every time I tried to instal service pack 1. I kept having to system restore, and finally gave up. After a lot of diagnostics, decided to throw a new hard drive at it. Still running fine after a couple years (altho...

Weber says they're shipping with Neutrik jacks now. Doesn't guarantee quality, but it gives a much better shot than what they used to have.
