Re: cabinet build - leaving space on each side of the chassis
Thank you, this all sounds like good recommendations, and I will be guided as such. This amp (stereo amp) will be built using a Twin Reverb chassis (24 3/8" x 8 1/4" x 1.75") and will have probably 2 x 12" speakers just like a twin, so about the same size cab. I was thinking on going 10" speakers fo...

Re: Two 20 watt amps in one chassis - layout/grounding
Alright, lets see if I've got this straight in my head. With plexi preamps, I can place the first input tube stages at the ends of the amp, power section at mid/rear, then run the amplified signal from each end to the normal and bright 1Meg pots that would be located in the middle front of the chass...

cabinet build - leaving space on each side of the chassis
Hello, While I assume I could figure this out myself, it would be good to know if there are any standards or optimal space you leave on each side of a chassis. This is when dimensioning out the size of a combo or head cabinet. Thank you. Im almost ready to make my first combo cabinet with a Princeto...

Re: Two 20 watt amps in one chassis - layout/grounding
I like the presence of the two High voltage coils on that toroidal transformer.
Makes it a great contender right there - and plenty of 6.3vac current available.
Thanks for the link

Re: Two 20 watt amps in one chassis - layout/grounding
Thanks everyone, very interesting suggestions, especially on the toroidal power transformer. I hadn't thought of that as have never used one in a build. The reason for separate power transformers was based on how I initially pictured the usability of the front panel in terms of the control knob layo...

Re: Two 20 watt amps in one chassis - layout/grounding
Hey thanks TUBEDUDE, I have followed that recommendation right up to the "power supply in the middle and inputs on the end". Otherwise, I have it planned out to be two completely separate amps including the power transformers, with the only common components being the AC cord that would branch off t...

Two 20 watt amps in one chassis - layout/grounding
Hello, Thats it. I'm doing it, and have begun collecting components and parts. I'm looking by years end to have built a little 20 watt stereo tube amp to take advantage of the nice sounding stereo pedals that are out plus, it just seems like a really cool thing to try, and to have. I'll probably jus...

Re: Regarding the B+mosfet reducer and power ground
Thanks Dorrisant, I think I can relax now. But there was a level or two I needed to wrap the head around to get a fuller picture of what was going on, electrically. I believe it was Martin that mentioned that what the B+mosfet reducer is doing is lowering the HT centertap by the zener drop, which in...

Re: Regarding the B+mosfet reducer and power ground
Thank you Martin, According to what you discovered in simulation, seeing noise at the source of the mosfet, its looks like I should leave everything right where it is, if I am in fact getting the right picture: 1. HT center tap to Mosfet source 2. Bias ground to earth grounded power ground 3. Filter...

Re: Regarding the B+mosfet reducer and power ground
Thanks guys for this information, This amp is fixed biases, the bias tap is a 50 volt tap off the HT coil, and the bias has both a bias level "master" and a balance, that I believe part of the Rob Robinette Blackvibe 6L6. And the bias "master" pot had to be rotated nearly 180 degrees to meet the new...

Re: Regarding the B+mosfet reducer and power ground
Hi RG, thanks for posting on this. I am at work now and will try to see about posting a diagram but, I always seem to fail miserably when attempting to post an image on a forum. I need to get on the stick with that. My power ground was just a small lug strip with HT centertap, filtercap returns (cat...

Regarding the B+mosfet reducer and power ground
Hello, Something I noticed last night and got me really thinking but, not yet able to fall on a conclusion. This is about what happens to Power ground when a B+mosfet reducer circuit as drawn out by RG and company is installed as should between HT centertap and power ground. As I was going over my l...

Implimenting Friedman Marshall box with a Fender type amp
Hello, I have a nerve inquiring on this but, would like to hear some thoughts on this. So while my mono amp builds have been really good and even very gig worthy with consistent compliments on my tones and sound, (a Plexi 6V6 and an AB763 single channel with some added features with a decent but not...

Re: Stereo 6v6 amps in one cabinet - proximity considerations
Well Stevem,
I certainly can say it generates a lot of hope in me to see a layout like that that works wonders, while knowing that I have a hell of a lot more area to park my transformers in than that. No excuse for any buzz/hum from my up and coming stereo amp!
thank you,
Phil d.

Re: Stereo 6v6 amps in one cabinet - proximity considerations
Hi Xtian. I have and will continue to see how they arrange components in terms of layout on the home stereo tube amps. What I'll need to do is figure how that will translate to a 2 x 10" speaker combo with full symmetrically laid out controls on a front panel with the standard Volume/Trb/Mid/Bass/Ma...
